Shahid Sheikh OBE in TOP 100 BAME BOARD TALENT INDEX 2017
The BAME 100 uniquely profiles one hundred of the leading ethnic minority executives across the UK by their ability and readiness to sit on the Boards of our leading organisations.
Shahid was born in Uganda but driven out of the country along with his family in 1972. They arrived in the UK as refugees in the truest sense of the word with no money and few prospects, but they worked hard together and achieved the (almost) impossible dream- to be successful in their professional and private lives, and to take their place in society and their communities.
This early experience has formed Shahid's exceptional sense of duty and fairness; as a businessman he accepts that he has a duty to look after his workforce, treat everyone fairly irrespective of their background, race or gender. He is a huge advocate of promoting equality and oportunity to all both in his business and outside of it. He is an avid supporter of local causes and charities and was awarded the OBE for his services to Business and Charities.
The Index is revealed each year at a highly prestigious event, this year at a private viewing of Basquiat: Boom for Real at the Barbican, that brings together the BAME 100 with Britain's leading Chairs, CEOs and business leaders with the sole objective of enabling connections and relationships to be forged. This annual event as a milestone in proving to the captains on industry that exceptional and diverse talent is actually out there.
