Clifton Packaging, named Company of the Year at the 2016 Leicester Mercury Business awards, has won another prestigious prize.

The team based at Meridian Business Park, Braunstone, won the beverages category at the annual
WorldStar Awards, run by the World Packaging Organisation, in Vienna.

It is the latest in a series of awards for the business which designs and makes plastic, flexible packaging ranging from squeezable, stand-up baby food pouches, to pourable cooking mix pouches, crisp packets and shaped kids’ treat packs.

Clifton employs 75 people in Meridian and has a turnover of more than £20 million.

As well as being named Company of the Year in the spring, Clifton also won the Investment Project of the Year category and was highly commended in the SME of the Year category at the 2016 UK Packaging Awards.

Clifton Packaging managing director Shahid Sheikh was also name Entrepreneur of the Year at the 2016 MSD UK Awards, which celebrate the achievements of ethnic minority businesses.

Mr Sheikh, who heads up the family business, said he was “absolutely delighted” to hear Clifton has been named a WorldStar winner.

He said: “This comes on the back of a great year for Clifton which has seen us win many significant awards locally, nationally and internationally across both industry specific and business focused awards.

“These award wins are testament to the innovation that we put right at the heart of all our product work as well as to the phenomenal growth of Clifton over the last few years – growth that we are looking to further accelerate over the next few years.

“I would like to dedicate this award to my late parents and elder brother Khalid Sheikh, former chairman of Clifton Packaging, who sadly passes away in May 2014.

“We have a very committed team at Clifton Packaging and my thanks go out to each and every one of them.

“Our staff are instrumental in helping us to achieve all that we have to date and in helping us to take the business to where we intend to take it over the next three to five years.

“Last, but by no means least, I would like to thank our customers and suppliers.

“It is true to say that without them we wouldn’t be who we are today.”

Mr Sheikh added: “Winning the MSD UK entrepreneurs award also means the world to me.

“I strive to do my best and be the best that I can be each and every day, but to be awarded this accolade from my peers is particularly special.”
